Belnome

Belnome, who turns 25 in March, batted .275/.380/.384 with five home runs, 33 RBI, five stolen bases and a .763 OPS this past season with Triple-A Tucson. With experience between first base, second base and the hot corner, he could make it as a utility infielder.

Belnome is now protected from December’s Rule 5 Draft. He batted .300/.408/.446 with eight home runs, 35 doubles and 67 RBI in 127 games this summer at Triple-A.

Belnome was only up in the majors for a couple of days. He’s hit .225/.345/.370 this year at Triple-A and was sent back there Sunday to open a roster spot for Jeremy Hellickson, who will make his 2014 debut Tuesday night.

Belnome has hit .225/.345/.370 with six home runs and 29 RBI in 74 games this season for the Durham Bulls. He’ll function as a utility infielder in Tampa Bay.

Belnome was only up for a day while Sean Rodriguez was on paternity leave. It appears that they’re expecting Rodriguez back prior to Friday’s game.

The 26-year-old is a career .289/.402/.459 hitter in the minor leagues but has never really been given a real shot at the big league level. He’ll continue to function as minor league depth for the Rays.
