    Giants released OF Wendell Fairley.
Fairley was a first round pick of the Giants in 2007, but he failed to live up to the hype. The 25-year-old owns a .668 OPS over four professional seasons and batted just .211/.285/.280 in 60 games last season between rookie ball and Double-A.
  • Giants selected high school outfielder Wednell Fairley with the 29th pick.
A rare high school position player drafted in the first round by the Giants. Of course, three early picks leads to some added flexibility there. Fairley is an impressive athlete, but it will probably take him a couple of years before he’s a baseball player. Some see him as a future All-Star.
  • Giants prospect Wendell Fairley went 0-for-4 on Monday and is hitting .226/.311/.321 in 106 at-bats for low Single-A Augusta.
That’s with the Giants protecting him against left-handers. In 16 plate appearances against southpaws, the left-handed hitter is 0-for-15 with an 8/1 K/BB ratio. The Giants knew Fairley wouldn’t move quickly when they drafted him 29th overall in 2007. Unless he gets hot soon, he’s likely to be dropped a level when the short-season leagues start.
