Diamondbacks OF prospect Wilderd Patino stole two bases while going 1-for-3 with a double for Low-A Visalia on Sunday.
He also scored and drove in a run. With the pair of thefts, Patino has now stolen bases in four consecutive games, and it brings his total to an impressive 34 over 72 games with the Rawhide. Speed is not a question mark for Patino, and there’s also the potential for above-average power in his right-handed bat; the type you see from players who hit 20-25 homers in their best seasons. He’s also a solid defender, but the question marks come as to whether or not he can hit enough for those tools to matter. A .272/.344 average/on-base percentage isn’t shabby, and a vast improvement over the .218/.286 he posted in 2021. There’s work to be done, but Patino has obvious fantasy upside, and could help managers by the end of 2024.
