The 76ers have officially signed Cat Barber.
The 76ers now have 19 players under contract and will be able to bring in one more for training camp. The 76ers don’t have the best depth at PG, but Barber still has a lot of work to do in order to make the 15-man roster.
  • PHI Point Guard #5
Free agent PG Anthony Barber is expected to play for the Pelicans during Summer League.
The former N.C. State star, who is commonly known as Cat Barber, averaged a stellar 23.5 points during his junior season in 2015-16. He went undrafted but it didn’t take long for New Orleans to offer him a make-good deal for Summer League. We’ll let you know if the 6'3" guard makes waves during the offseason.
  • PHI Point Guard #5
Anthony Barber agreed to a partially-guaranteed deal with the 76ers.
He’s likely just going to be a camp body for the 76ers. Barber had a somewhat disappointing Summer League with the Pelicans, averaging 6.2 points, 1.2 boards, 0.5 assists and 0.2 steals.
  • Point Guard #8
Jerryd Bayless (wrist), Nik Stauskas (hamstring), Cat Barber (wrist, hand) and Brandon Paul (hip) will not play vs. the Cavaliers on Saturday.
Bayless has no timetable for a return and his absence could extend into the regular season. T.J. McConnell should get the start at PG with Sergio Rodriguez backing him up.
  • PHI Point Guard #5
Cat Barber (wrist, hand) is not expected to play on Saturday vs. the Cavs.
Barber, an undrafted free agent, needs to show something in order to have any kind of chance to stick on Philly’s roster, but he’s not going to be able to do that if he can’t get on the floor.
  • PHI Point Guard #5
Anthony Barber (wrist) will play against the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Barber has been dealing with an injury to his right hand, but is finally ready to return to preseason action. While he could earn a roster spot with a solid finish to the preseason, Barber won’t have any fantasy value.
  • Point Guard #8
Jerryd Bayless (wrist), Cat Barber (wrist, hand), and Nik Stauskas (hamstring) will miss Thursday’s game against the Wizards.
None of the injuries are believed to be serious, but the Sixers will play it safe with all three early on in the preseason. While Barber and Stauskas aren’t worth a pick in standard fantasy leagues, Bayless will have fantasy value as the Sixers presumed starting point guard.
  • Point Guard #8
Jerryd Bayless (wrist) and Anthony Barber (wrist, hand) did not participate during Wednesday’s practice.
Bayless has been nursing a wrist injury for the past week, but there’s no indication that he’s dealing with a significant injury here. He’s currently the favorite to start at the point guard slot for the 76ers, so he’s worth a late-round look for those seeking some 3-point shooting with a trickle of assists and steals. Barber is not worth drafting in any setting.
  • PHI Point Guard #5
Cat Barber (wrist, hand) did not travel with the 76ers for their first preseason game.
Barber suffered an injury to his right hand and wrist in practice and did not travel with the team on Tuesday. While the Sixers will likely give Nik Stauskas some run at point guard on Tuesday, Barber doesn’t have much fantasy value at the moment.
  • Point Guard #8
Jerryd Bayless (wrist), Jahlil Okafor (rest, knee) and Anthony Barber (wrist, hand) have been ruled out for Tuesday’s preseason game against the Celtics.
None of these guys are dealing with a significant injury, but there’s just no reason to play anyone at less than 100 percent this early in the season. T.J. McConnell will be earning the start tonight sans Bayless, and there will be some more minutes available for Nik Stauskas and Sergio Rodriguez.
