The Sixers have agreed to terms with rookie forward Bobby Jones.
They acquired Jones, a second-round pick, from the Timberwolves on draft night. The 6-7 forward will receive the rookie minimum of $412,718 for the coming season, with an option - and perhaps some guarantee - for a second season. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the minimum for a second season would be $664,209. He’s not likely to have much fantasy value this season.

Despite a public statement to the contrary, Phil Jackson is “intrigued” by the Nets coaching job, a person with knowledge of his thinking told CBS Sports’ Ken Berger on Friday.
League sources told Berger the Nets will reach out to Jackson and could meet with the former Lakers and Bulls coach to discuss particulars. The report also mentions the Nets are more interested in Jeff Van Gundy than his brother and former Magic coach, Stan Van Gundy. Yahoo! Sports reported earlier Friday that Nets GM Billy King is intrigued by Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson and that Sampson has emerged as a “significant” candidate for the opening. The Nets are expected to begin their official search within the next few days.
  • The Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets have completed a deal to send center Steven Hunter and second-year forward Bobby Jones to Denver for forward Reggie Evans and the draft rights to forward Ricky Sanchez.
Interesting. The Sixers now have no one to back up center Samuel Dalembert and if Shavlik Randolph’s ankle injury isn’t 100% by the start of the season, Hunter was also a good bet to start at power forward. Meanwhile, the Nuggets get a quality big to backup injury-prone big men like Nene, Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin, while the Sixers get Reggie Evans - a great rebounder, but a guy who offers zero on the offensive end of things. Add to it the fact the Nuggets shaved $8 million off their cap space, and this looks like a complete steal for Denver. However, Hunter won’t have much fantasy value without an injury to a teammate.

The Sixers traded forward Bobby Jones to the Denver Nuggets in part of the Steven Hunter/Reggie Evans deal on Monday.
Jones has no more value in Denver than he had in Philly, which means he’s not worth owning this year.

George Karl said he has made no decision that Yakhouba Diawara will be his opening-night shooting guard, but it’s starting to sound like he will be.
“There’s not a lot of time right now (before the opener), but now I think we can get away with more of a defensive-minded player, and (Diawara’s) probably our best defender,” said Karl, who started Diawara at shooting guard Tuesday. Chucky Atkins, Bobby Jones and Linas Kleiza are all in the running for the job and all could end up starting at some point during the season.

Bobby Jones, who the AP mistakenly listed as a rookie in the recap, hit 9-of-13 shots and four threes on his way to 26 points and two blocks as the Nuggets fell to the Pistons on Tuesday.
Jones was drafted by Minnesota in 2006 and spent last year with the Sixers before being traded to the Nuggets in the Steven Hunter deal a month ago. It’s important to know that the Nuggets’ entire starting lineup sat this one out, so guys like Jones, Eduardo Najera and J.R. Smith were able to shine.

The original plan was to start Chucky Atkins at point guard and Allen Iverson at shooting guard in Denver, but injuries to Atkins and Anthony Carter have likely forced Iverson into the PG slot for opening night.
That opens up a spot at the two and it seems to be a race between Bobby Jones and Linas Kleiza, while J.R. Smith and Yakhouba Diawara. George Karl could also choose to start Carmelo Anthony at the 2, sliding Eduardo Najera (who has looked great in his two games) over to small forward. As you can see, there are plenty of questions to be answered in Denver, but we’re not sure any of the 2-guards not named “Melo” will have much value either way.
  • LAC Shooting Guard
Playing without Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin and Nene, Anthony Roberson led Denver with 20 points in a preseason loss to the Pistons Sunday night.
Roberson’s jumper pulled Denver within 105-104 with 27.6 seconds left, but Detroit pulled away late to notch the victory. The Nuggets bench came through with 75 of their 106 total points, as Bobby Jones scored 17 and Von Wafer added 16. All three are playing for a spot at the end of Denver’s bench.
  • FA Power Forward #33
Rudy Gay will miss Friday’s game with a case of the flu, while Darko Milicic will play through a sore knee.
Juan Carlos Navarro was listed as a starter in place of Gay, but Bobby Jones actually got the call. Hopefully, JCN is not injured or ill.

Bobby Jones was given a start with Rudy Gay out with the flu on Friday and made the most of it, going off for 20 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, a block and two threes on 8-of-13 shooting as the Grizziles blew out the Sonics.
There are several important things to keep in mind here, including Gay was out, the game was over by halftime and the Grizzlies wanted to see what they had in Jones, who is signed to a 10-day contract. That said, Memphis really doesn’t have an effective backup for Gay, and Jones could get some run off the bench going forward. If you have someone to cut and feel like taking a flier on Jones, go for it.
