The Nets waived big man Brian Zoubek on Friday.
He went undrafted and will have an uphill battle to ever get a full-time job with an NBA team. The move leaves the Nets roster set with 15 players.
  • DAL Power Forward #6
Troy Murphy (groin) and Brian Zoubek (back) did not play Thursday in their preseason game against the Celtics.
Coach Avery Johnson plans to play Murphy for 18 minutes on Saturday against the 76ers, and with rookie Derrick Favors playing poorly, his role is nowhere near in jeopardy. Just keep an eye on Saturday’s matchup to see if this injury is more serious than Johnson has been letting on.
  • DAL Power Forward #6
Troy Murphy is dealing with a groin strain that the Nets are being very cautious with, keeping him out of all contact drills.
Kris Humphries has been logging heavy power forward minutes, along with Derrick Favors. We’re guessing Murphy will be ready for opening night, but it does sound like a somewhat serious injury. Center Brian Zoubek is out with a sore back, while Quinton Ross is nursing a toenail injury for the Nets.

Nets signed undrafted free agent Duke C Brian Zoubek.
Zoubek was generating good buzz leading up to draft night, so it’s a little surprising that he went undrafted. He’s very limited athletically and offensively, but true 7-footers don’t grow on trees. Zoubek, a New Jersey native, will try to make the team as a backup for Brook Lopez.
