Gary Forbes had 11 points, 10 assists and three 3-pointers on Wednesday, despite being limited to just 19 minutes.
Forbes is now the backup point guard in Toronto, and while his minutes took a big hit with the return of DeMar DeRozan, he still managed to get it done. But with both Jose Calderon and DeRozan now healthy, nights like this may be few and far between. If you recently picked him up, you might as well ride him until he cools off, but he needs a lot more minutes than 19 to be able to put up fantasy-worthy numbers on a nightly basis.
  • DEN Point Guard
With Jose Calderon (eye) and Gary Forbes (knee) both sitting out Friday’s game, Ben Uzoh will get a rare start at PG for the Raptors.
Uzoh is only a recommended play in the deepest of fantasy leagues for Friday night.
  • DEN Point Guard
Ben Uzoh started at point guard for injured Jose Calderon (eye) on Friday against the Cavs, scoring nine points on 4-of-8 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes.
This should be considered a win for anybody that chose to spot-start Udoh tonight, and needless to say he won’t have any fantasy value unless both Calderon and Gary Forbes remain out.
  • HOU Small Forward #9
Gary Forbes (knee) won’t play on Friday against the Cavs.
Forbes has missed two straight games with the injury and will miss his third straight on Friday. This news should have no impact on fantasy owners in standard-sized leagues with DeMar DeRozan, James Johnson, Linas Kleiza and Alan Anderson all healthy.
  • Point Guard #8
Jerryd Bayless played briefly off the bench on Wednesday, but left after about one minute and will not return.
He’s dealing with a hip pointer that he could have supposedly played through on Tuesday night. Given that he’s already done for the night, he must be more hurt than he was letting on. As if the return of Jose Calderon wasn’t a big enough problem for Bayless’ owners, this injury news is not good. Consider him day-to-day for now, and watch for an update on Thursday. Gary Forbes will see a lot of minutes as backup point guard tonight.
  • HOU Small Forward #9
Gary Forbes (knee) will “likely” be a game-time decision for Wednesday’s game against the Sixers.
Forbes is dealing with soreness, so there is no reason to be overly concerned. Regardless, his fantasy prospects have come crashing back down to earth with DeMar DeRozan, James Johnson and Linas Kleiza all playing in front of him.
  • PHI Center #18
Solomon Alabi set career-highs in points (11), rebounds (19), and minutes (40) in Thursday’s blowout win over the Nets.
If you had Alabi in your lineup tonight, stop what you’re doing and start picking lottery numbers. Gary Forbes also came off the bench and put up a big number, scoring 23 points with five threes, six boards, and two steals in 41 minutes.
  • HOU Small Forward #9
Gary Forbes (knee) will not play in Tuesday’s game against the Bobcats.
Forbes has some soreness in his left knee. He’s fallen off the fantasy radar anyway now that DeMar DeRozan, James Johnson and Linas Kleiza are all healthy.
  • HOU Small Forward #9
Gary Forbes scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (including two threes) with three rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes off the bench.
Forbes tweaked an ankle but stayed in the game, and both he and Linas Kleiza (15 points, nine boards, two threes) benefited from DeMar DeRozan’s early ejection tonight. None of this group, including starter Alan Anderson (11 points, zero threes, two steals) is a truly reliable option heading into Thursday’s finale.
  • Small Forward #11
Linas Kleiza had two points and zero rebounds in seven minutes on Sunday, his lowest playing time in any game this season.
The Raptors have developed an ardent ‘Tank Nation’ (encouraging the team to lose as many games as possible and thus get higher odds in the draft lottery) and despite tonight’s victory it seems the wheels will come off sooner or later. Kleiza was marginalized by Gary Forbes (nine points in 24 minutes) and even little-known Alan Anderson (nine points in 12 minutes).
