Cavaliers signed swingman Ira Newble, who had been with the Hawks, to a four-year, $12.3 million contract.
The contract includes a player option for a fifth season. The defensive-minded Newble averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 73 games last season. He’ll probably play about 25 minutes per game as a reserve for Cleveland.

Ira Newble (Achilles’) said before Tuesday’s game that he will try to play on Saturday.
Newble doesn’t have fantasy value, even when starting.

Ira Newble took part in practice Monday and declared himself 85 percent recovered from his sprained left Achilles.
Newble said he would wait until game time against the Raptors tonight before deciding whether he can play. He said he’s still having problems playing defense, which is his primary asset.

Ira Newble practiced for the first time in the preseason Thursday and should play Monday.
Newble has been troubled by patella tendinitis.

Ira Newble said he didn’t think his quadriceps injury would keep him out for a long stretch, but coach Paul Silas didn’t rule out that it might cause him to go to the IL if the pain persists.
Newble is day-to-day for now. Eric Williams will start as long as Newble is out.

Ira Newble came off the bench to score a season-high 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
Newble has also done as fine a job defending Kobe Bryant as anyone else this season. In two games against Atlanta, Kobe has shot 8-for-22 and 3-for-9, mostly with Newble on him.

The Bulls would like to sign Ira Newble with the $1.8 million medical exception that should be awarded because of Jay Williams’ injuries.
Newble, a defensive-minded swingman, is drawing interest from Atlanta and three other teams that could drive his price beyond that.
  • LAL Small Forward
The Cavaliers had made an offer to free agent Ira Newble, who is also being pursued by the Bulls.
Newble, a 28-year-old defensive specailist, averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds last year.
  • LAL Small Forward
Ira Newble scored a season-high 18 points and added five boards on 8-of-10 shooting for the Cavs.
He also had three steals and is starting to show some fantasy promise. Of course, most of the Cavs stars were sitting at the end of this blowout win over Portland, meaning that some of the “little guys” got more action.
  • LAL Small Forward
Ira Newble, making his second straight start at shooting guard, had two points and six rebounds today.
The Cavs seem to be at their best when Jeff McInnis and Eric Snow are on the court together, but it’s Lucious Harris and Newble who have received all the starts at shooting guard.
