Isiah Thomas said he won’t have a role with the Knicks this season, but left the door open for an eventual return.
That sound you hear is a collective groan coming from Knicks fans across the country. While Thomas will join the New York Liberty of the WNBA as president and part-owner, this move also brings him back into the Madison Square Garden fold with friend and Knicks owner, Jim Dolan. When asked about a possible return to the NBA, Thomas said, “I am interested in basketball period. You never know where life takes you. I make no plans; I didn’t plan to end up here. None of us know where we’re going to be 5-10 years from now.” Sorry, Knicks fans.

Isiah Thomas is poised to be an investor for the Pistons’ ownership group, according to the Detroit News.
“Not a ceremonial piece, but a respectable piece,” the report states. Thomas became a Hall of Famer thanks to his days in Detroit and the fans would obviously welcome him with open arms. The deal would have to be approved by Platinum Equity’s partners as well as the NBA.

Isiah Thomas has been named the president of the New York Liberty of the WNBA.
While Knicks fans will likely have a few jokes up their sleeve about how the Liberty will trade away all their first-round picks, the reality is the Liberty just have to hope he doesn’t damage their franchise too much. He’s Jim Dolan’s guy, and it will be interesting to see how his transition back into the big leagues proceeds.Thomas will also have part ownership of the team, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN.
