Jay Williams says he can dunk a basketball and is looking forward to returning to the NBA next season.
Williams should be recovered from his devastating motorcycle accident by then. He’s rehabbing in Durham.

Sports Illustrated reported the Bulls contacted Jay Williams recently to inquire about his health.
Though relations are still cordial between the two parties, the Bulls have no intention of re-signing Williams if he successfully rehabilitates from injuries suffered in a June 2003 motorcycle accident.

Jay Williams remain in intensive care yesterday with injuries to his pelvic area, left leg and knee.
A source told the Chicago Tribune that Williams had undergone one operation to repair nerve damage in his pelvic area and could require several more surgeries, including a reconstructive procedure on his left knee. Though several team sources acknowledged that the injuries threatened Williams’ career, the source painted a more optimistic picture, saying the guard would miss next season but could eventually return.

Jay Williams is hospitalized in Chicago after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident Thursday evening.
Reports out of Chicago indicate that Williams broke his leg and may have pelvis injuries, but the Bulls aren’t ready to confirm anything. ''He’s OK, but to the extent of the leg injury, we don’t want to speculate,’' Bulls spokesman Tim Hallam said.

The Bulls finally received the paperwork from Jay Williams to officially complete his roughly $3 million buyout.
The buyout stipulates the Bulls will have first crack at re-signing Williams if he returns from his injuries, although both scenarios are considered long shots. It also creates a roster spot, which should remain open until the trade deadline to allow GM John Paxson to pursue trades in which the Bulls take back more players than they give up. If no deal is made, one possibility is for the Bulls to re-sign Linton Johnson from the CBA.

Jay Williams is hopeful that he’ll be ready to return to the NBA by the second half of next season.
Williams isn’t yet in basketball shape, so it doesn’t look like he’ll be able to take part in a summer league. A return to the NBA next year is pretty unlikely.

Jay Williams and Jamal Crawford were paired with each other for 11 minutes in the Bulls’ backcourt Sunday, their longest stint together this season.
In that time, they combined for 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a blocked shot. If the production and pairing continues, it could get to the point where it’s not just the starting point guard who has any value.

Jay Williams will work out for the Nets on Saturday, June 17.
Williams worked out last week for the Raptors and told reporters, “I actually think I’m ready to play now... I’m not going to be a point guard who’s going to try to score 40 points, I’m going to be a guy who’s going to get all my teammates involved.” He is trying to make a comeback after a devastating motorcycle accident in June 2003 when he suffered a fractured pelvis, torn knee ligaments and damaged nerves in his left leg.
