Point guard Jerome Dyson came out of nowhere and off the bench for a career-high 24 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals on 5-of-7 shooting in Wednesday’s loss.
He played 27 minutes and hit 14-of-16 free throws. The Hornets want to give their young guys a look and while it’s hard to say whether Dyson will do this again anytime soon, he’s worth a close look in all leagues. And if he is going to get these kinds of minutes, it will cut into the playing time of Greivis Vasquez.
  • Power Forward #14
Jason Smith (ankle) returned to action in Thursday’s loss to the Rockets, playing five minutes with two points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Smith was among the most improved players in the league this season, though he won’t get any pub from the mainstream basketball media anytime soon. Jerome Dyson scored 15 points with one assist, three steals, and a block in his start, Marco Belinelli scored nine points with a three, a steal, and a block, Lance Thomas added 11 points with eight boards, one steal, and two blocks, and Al-Farouq Aminu scored 11 points with 10 boards, three assists, and two threes in the loss.

    Hornets signed PG Jerome Dyson.
The Hornets are desperate for point guard help with Jarrett Jack (foot) done for the season. Dyson is a former undrafted free agent out of UConn.
  • PHX Point Guard
Jerome Dyson, coming off a career-best 24-point night, missed all five field goal attempts for zero points on Thursday.
Dyson added four rebounds and an assist in 13 minutes, and showed he can penetrate once again, but Greivis Vasquez’s owners shouldn’t panic just yet. Dyson will need Vasquez to falter, and then he’ll need to earn his minutes before he’ll cut into Vasquez’s minutes.
  • BKN Point Guard #21
Greivis Vasquez scored seven points on 3-of-9 shooting (no threes) with six rebounds and nine assists in the Hornets’ 105-99 win over the struggling Rockets on Thursday.
Vasquez played 40 minutes and upstart backup PG Jerome Dyson bombed out in 13 minutes, missing all five of his shots for zero points, four rebounds, and one assist. Vasquez’s owners shouldn’t be overly worried, and he is a must-start player until further notice.
  • PHX Point Guard
Jerome Dyson will start in Thursday’s game against the Rockets.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Greivis Vasquez is coming off the bench or out, but Vasquez’s owners need to look for Plan B immediately. Dyson, assuming Vasquez doesn’t play or is going to play a minor role, is well worth fantasy consideration if he’ll be steering the ship tonight.

The Hornets released Jerome Dyson on Saturday.
New Orleans traded for Greivis Vasquez soon after releasing Dyson, which firms up their otherwise very weak backup PG situation.
  • PHX Point Guard
The Suns acquired Jerome Dyson on Friday.
Dyson played in nine games with the Hornets last season, averaging 7.4 points, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals on 39.6 percent shooting and has no fantasy value.
  • FA Center #42
A complicated three-team trade involving Robin Lopez has a “50-50" chance of happening, according to Suns president Lon Babby. New Orleans would trade Jerome Dyson to Minnesota, Brad Miller to Phoenix, acquire Lopez and Hakim Warrick from Phoenix, and Minnesota would send Wes Johnson and a first-round pick (lottery protected, from Memphis) to Phoenix.
This is a confusing deal but the bottom line is that Lopez could very well start at center in New Orleans (competing against Jason Smith), Warrick will be stuck behind Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis, Miller will retire, and Wes Johnson should see solid minutes at both wing positions in Phoenix (and could even start). It also means that Minnesota’s David Kahn has essentially traded Al Jefferson for Chase Budinger, Malcolm Lee and some cash. Classic. If the trade doesn’t happen, Minnesota could lose out on signing Andrei Kirilenko, the Hornets would still be hurting at center (Jason Smith) and Phoenix would likely keep Lopez.

    Suns waived G Jerome Dyson.
Dyson was never expected to stick with the Suns after being acquired. He played in nine games with the Hornets last season and will likely look to latch on with another club in training camp.
