Akognon

Akognon has been dominating for the DongGuan Leopards in China the past few years (he averaged 28 ppg last season), and after tearing up the Summer League for the Kings he’ll take his shot in Dallas. He’s a quality scorer that can play at the NBA level, but stands just 5'11" and isn’t a great defender. The Mavs’ roster limit is also working against him, as they’ll have 15 guaranteed contracts once they sign rookie Jae Crowder.

Akognon is the latest and should be the last in a rotating list of guards the Mavs are auditioning with their final roster spot. Akognon has appeared in one game with Dallas, scoring two points to go with one assist in four minutes.

The Mavs have used their final roster spot to audition several D-League guards on 10-day contracts, with Akognon being the latest. If he does play, expect it to be very limited minutes.

Instead, the team will go with Josh Akognon, who can really play, and it will be interesting to see if he gets any meaningful minutes considering Dentmon did not.

Akognon was signed by the Mavs before training camp but was waived before the season began, and now Dallas will give him a chance to show his stuff as the season winds down.

Dallas let him go after he led their team in points per game in summer league, and reportedly wanted to bring him back after he pasted through waivers in July. The Mavs do have plenty of depth in the backcourt, but there are some other teams with guard deficiencies that may want to give Akognon a shot at their camp.

Akognon led the Mavs during Summer League with 17.5 points per game, though he shot just 41.8 percent from the field. Dallas is interested in re-signing him, but he may get claimed off waivers and is also expected to receive some lucrative offers from teams in China.

Akognon last played in the NBA in 2013 and at 29 years old, can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Akognon most recently played with the Delaware 87ers of the D-League and will now take his talents overseas for the 2014-15 season. The 28-year-old has only played nine minutes in the NBA and isn’t anyone who fantasy owners need to commit to memory.
