ATLANTA (AP) -- New Orleans star Anthony Davis is sitting out Wednesday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks because of a bruised right hip.

Davis was injured the previous night in the Pelicans’ first win of the season, a 120-105 victory over Dallas. He sat out the second half and wasn’t cleared to face the Hawks. Omer Asik gets the start at center.

Davis is averaging 24 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. He was injured in the second quarter when he took a knee to the hip. X-rays were negative and he’s listed as day to day.

The Pelicans will also be without guard Jrue Holiday, who hasn’t been cleared to play back-to-back games while recovering from a lower leg injury.

Holiday won’t get to go against his brother Justin, a backup for the Hawks.
