In discussing all the chatter that the Cleveland Cavaliers may take Arizona’s Derrick Williams or even Enes Kanter instead of consensus top pick Kyrie Irving of Duke, ESPN’s draft rumor machine Chad Ford said something interesting in a conference call last week:
Most of the talk was coming from people around Williams (and Kanter’s agent), not the Cavaliers.
Now ESPN’s Ric Bucher has solidified that report — the Cavs are taking Irving No. 1.
Note he said committed, not told Irving they would take him. This is internal still. Traditionally when a report comes from Bucher we urge you to take a lot of salt with it, but this falls in line with everything we’ve heard. The Cavs have been high on Irving all year and when they got the top spot he was always pretty much a lock. So you can move that pick to ink. Derrick Williams will go No. 2, the question there is to whom?
