The Pelicans are interested in Jeff Van Gundy, and he’s interested in them.

So, their courtship continues.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

The New Orleans Pelicans’ coaching search is gathering momentum, a process that included a formal interview Tuesday with Jeff Van Gundy, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The sides had spoken over the phone, but this was the first face-to-face meeting, league sources said.

Van Gundy is obviously gaining momentum in New Orleans, but this doesn’t put him in the driver’s seat for the job. Not yet, at least.

Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry already interviewed, and a second interview was planned. If the Bulls fire Tom Thibodeau, he could reemerge as a top candidate with the Pelicans.

Between Van Gundy, Gentry and Thibodeau, I like the group New Orleans has pursued. Now, it’s just a matter of determining who’s available and who’d make the best hire.
