Stephen Curry – who’s building his case as the NBA’s best point guard – is one of the league’s most underpaid players for one reason: repeated ankle injuries.

Curry missed 40 games the season before signing a four-year, $44 million contract extension with the Warriors. So, everyone will keep a close eye on any pain he has in his ankles.

Yesterday, Curry left Golden State’s win over the Pistons with eight minutes remaining due to an ankle injury.

Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area:

X-rays taken after the game were negative, according to the Warriors. The team believes Curry will be OK for the next game, Tuesday night against the Magic at Oracle Arena.

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $150,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Monday’s NBA games. It’s $25 to join and first prize is $20,000. Starts at 7pm ET on Monday. Here’s the FanDuel link.

The Warriors led by 15 when Curry left the game for good, so they could have afforded to sit him whether or not this was serious.

Curry has missed eight games the last three years, and in that time, he’s suffered minor ankle injuries – just like many other players. At this point, we can probably trust that this setback is minor, too.
