Minnesota has selected Ulrich Chomche with pick No. 57 in the draft and traded the pick to Toronto.
Chomche only appearaed in three games for NBA Academy Africa, but his numbers were eye-popping on both ends of the court. The big man averaged 13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.7 blocks and 2.7 triples across 30.1 minutes. He also committed 5.0 turnovers and shot just 42.4% from the floor. Chomche won’t turn 19 until December, making him the youngest player in this year’s draft. The limited sample size makes him a difficult player to project, but he’s a 6’11, athletic big man who has the skills to develop a quality offensive game and can already provide elite defense from Day 1. This pick has changed hands multiple times, and Chomche will end up with the Raptors. With Jakob Poeltl and Kelly Olynyk in front of him, there won’t be many minutes for Chomche early, but he has plenty of untapped potential.
