Despite starting at point guard most of the preseason while Jason Kidd rested, Zoran Planinic has been demoted to third-string.

Coach Byron Scott told non-roster invitee Doug Overton he would be the backup point guard for the time being. “Doug is more experienced,” Scott said. “I don’t think Z is quite ready yet.”

The Nets are reportedly set to buyout guard Zoran Planinic’s contract so he can play in Europe this season.

He’s expected to sign a multiyear deal with Spanish Euroleague power, Tau Ceramica and he could be waived by the Nets next week. This is not a big loss to the fantasy community, as he didn’t have value this year.

Planinic is still playing like a rookie. He’ll need to cut down on the miscues if he wants to start over Travis Best and Jacque Vaughn in games that matter.

Planinic has had a couple of decent games in the early going, but he’s also played less than a quarter twice. If he starts regularly playing 30 minutes per game, he’ll probably be worth picking up.
