Former Chiefs and Bucs DL Alex Magee attended the Eagles’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Magee lined up at both tackle and end. The 67th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Magee has been a complete bust and was arrested during last year’s lockout for marijuana possession. He’s just hoping for a contract at this point.

Chiefs agreed to terms with third-round DE Alex Magee on a multi-year contract.
A defensive tackle at Purdue, Magee has the size to play end in Clancy Pendergast’s 3-4 scheme. He’ll be a rotational lineman with Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson as a rookie, but Magee has an outside chance to beat out Dorsey for the starting weak-side end position. Jackson is locked in at left defensive end.

Chiefs selected DE Alex Magee with the No. 67 pick in the NFL Draft.
Magee started out as a defensive tackle at Purdue but moved outside as a senior. The Chiefs needed size at defensive end after moving to Clancy Pendergast’s 3-4 scheme, and Magee compete for time at right defensive end with Glenn Dorsey. No. 3 overall pick Tyson Jackson is locked in at LDE.

Despite Glenn Dorsey’s (conditioning) return to practice this week, rookie Alex Magee is playing ahead of him at right defensive end.
Magee is better built for the position and the pick of the new Chiefs regime, so he might have the edge, no matter how high Dorsey was drafted by Herm Edwards. Still, there is minimal IDP value to be had in this defensive line.

Chiefs DE Wallace Gilberry led the team’s defensive linemen in sacks (4.5) and quarterback pressures (5) in 2009.
This is more an indictment of Glenn Dorsey and disappointing rookies Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee more than anything, but Gilberry did make the most of his snaps and should have a roster spot in 2010. While the job of 3-4 ends isn’t always to rush, Jackson and Dorsey had plenty of blitz opportunities on third downs throughout the year. Dorsey had one sack; Jackson had none.

Buccaneers acquired DE Alex Magee and a 2011 sixth-round pick from the Chiefs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2011.
One trade got done just before the deadline after all. Both teams will receive 2011 draft picks, with the Chiefs’ obviously the higher of the two. A third-rounder in 2009, Magee had fallen out of Kansas City’s defensive line rotation. He’s played in just two games, registering two tackles. At 6'4/295, Magee was viewed as a potential “three technique” coming out for last year’s draft, playing tackle extensively at Purdue. He may moved inside in Tampa Bay’s Cover-2 system.

Bucs DE Alex Magee was arrested Monday and charged with marijuana possession in addition to expired tags.
Magee, the 67th overall pick in the 2009 draft, was acquired from Kansas City in exchange for a late-round pick swap last October. Pulled over in his 2009 Dodge Charger Wednesday afternoon, Magee’s car reeked of marijuana before a police search turned up a “misdemeanor amount of field test positive marijuana.” Magee may be able to avoid league discipline, but this will undoubtedly hurt his chances of making Tampa Bay’s 2011 roster.

On Monday afternoon, DE Alex Magee became the fourth member of the Bucs’ organization to be arrested in just over two months.
Cornerback Aqib Talib was booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on March 21. Pro scouting director Shelton Quarles was arrested on March 4 for DUI in Tampa, and special assistant to the head coach Jay Kaiser got pinched for DUI on April 20 (figures). Ex-assistant coach Chris Moseley was also arrested last September for another DUI. Magee finished the 2010 season with eight tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble.
