FOX NFL’s Jay Glazer reports the Chiefs “are trying” to trade up in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Glazer responded to a question on Twitter regarding the Chiefs trading up by saying, “They are trying. Even offering up next year’s 1 but that’s still like a 2.” The Chiefs’ biggest need in the draft is at wide receiver and it’s possible that all of the top options are gone by the time they make their first selection. Kansas City holds the No. 29 and No. 30 picks. Chiefs GM Brett Veach has said that his team has, at most, 18 players with a first-round grade this year. That means, if a trade happens at all, the Chiefs would likely want to move into the top 20 picks of the draft.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach noted the team only has first-round grades on 16-18 players.
“The odds of maybe one of those guys falling isn’t great,” Veach added. The Chiefs pick at 29 and 30. This doesn’t necessarily create a trade-up or trade-back scenario, but it adds some fuel to the idea that Kansas City might be willing to move. Particularly if they could get a first-round wideout that they really believe in to replace Tyreek Hill. Veach said that he doesn’t “anticipate” making a huge jump. But it does sound like picks in the early teens could be a sweet spot for trades, and that could be the range Kansas City targets.

Chiefs and GM Brett Veach agreed to a contract extension.
The team also signed Andy Reid to a long-term extension Monday. Currently in his eighth season with the team and fourth as general manager, Veach was singlehandedly responsible for locking up Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and DT Chris Jones for the foreseeable future this offseason. He also recently maneuvered deals for S Tyrann Mathieu, DE Frank Clark and WR Sammy Watkins, among others. Veach, 42, became the second-youngest GM to win a championship following Kansas City’s 31-20 victory over the Niners in Super Bowl LIV.

The Chiefs are finalizing six-year contracts for coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach, keeping the duo together through the 2025 season, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Andy Reid has been one of the best coaches in the NFL for two decades, even before leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory to cap the 2019 season. His ability to constantly stay ahead of NFL defenses is nearly unmatched, and it has only become more apparent when attached to the league’s best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes. Veach’s rise has been swift, jumping from Director of Player Personnel to General Manager just before the 2017 season after the surprise firing of John Dorsey. The two have been a near perfect pair ever since.

Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star expects Brett Veach to land the Chiefs’ GM job.
An ex-Eagles executive who drew interest from the Bills after they fired Doug Whaley, Veach was considered one of the top scouts in Philly’s front office before climbing the ladder and eventually following Andy Reid to Kansas City. Veach currently holds the title of Chiefs co-director of player personnel.

Chiefs promoted co-director of player personnel Brett Veach to GM.
The move should give Kansas City stability atop the organization after John Dorsey’s shocking firing. Veach has an extensive college scouting background and spent the last two seasons as the Chiefs’ co-director of player personnel, working closely with Dorsey and Andy Reid. Veach followed Reid from Philadelphia to Kansas City. He was credited with playing a prominent role in drafting both DeSean Jackson and Fletcher Cox with the Eagles.
