  • FA Tight End
The Saints have extended low tenders to restricted free agent TE David Thomas, NT Remi Ayodele, S Chris Reis, KR Courtney Roby, and LB Marvin Mitchell.
The Saints are showing they don’t value Ayodele or Reis especially highly because both were originally undrafted and could be had easily by other teams. Ayodele was a starter throughout 2009. Thomas was a third-round pick in 2006. He played very well last season and may pique interest.
  • NO Defensive Back
Saints re-signed restricted free agent S Chris Reis to a one-year, $1.101 million contract.
Reis is a backup safety and solid special teamer. He’s also the man that recovered the now famous onside kick in Super Bowl XLIV.
  • NO Defensive Back
Saints placed S Chris Reis on injured reserve after shoulder surgery, ending his season.
The Saints are thinning in the secondary, with CB Tracy Porter (MCL) out 3-to-4 weeks, S Pierson Prioleau (concussion) out indefinitely, and Roman Harper (hamstring) banged up. FS Darren Sharper will return in Week 7, but CB Reggie Jones is the only secondary player on the team’s practice squad. They square off against the wide receiver thin Cardinals in Week 5, but look for the Saints to make a move sometime this week to fill Reis’ roster spot.
  • FA Defensive Back
Saints S Pierson Prioleau was helped off the field Sunday with an apparent abdomen injury.
Prioleau was covering a kickoff when he took a huge block in the chest. It normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but Prioleau was starting at strong safety in place of Roman Harper (hamstring). Chris Reis is now the strong safety.
  • NO Defensive Back
Saints S Chris Reis left Sunday’s game with an undisclosed injury.
Reis was subbing for Pierson Prioleau (concussion), who was subbing for Roman Harper (hamstring). The Saints are now down to their fourth-string safety, Usama Young. It would be an issue if they weren’t playing the Panthers.
