Panthers signed WR Daewood Davis to a contract.
Davis spent last offseason with the Dolphins after signing with them as a UDFA out of Western Kentucky. He was waived during final cutdowns and eventually caught on with the UFL’s Memphis Showboats. He was named to the All-UFL team at the end of their season after he totaled 41 receptions for 446 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Davis will get a chance to compete for a spot on a Panthers roster that’s relatively thin at receiver.

Western Kentucky redshirt junior WR Daewood Davis caught three passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns as the Hilltoppers topped Marshall 53-21 on Saturday.
Davis (6'2/195) caught two long passes from quarterback Bailey Zappe on the day, both coming in the third quarter. Zappe first connected with Davis on a 47-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter to cut Marshall’s lead to 14-13, while his second score on the day came on a 50-yard touchdown pass to put the Hilltoppers up 26-14. Davis saved his best for last in this one, as Saturday marked his first 100-yard game of the season. He and the Hilltoppers will now face UTSA next weekend for the C-USA conference championship.

Western Kentucky WR redshirt junior Daewood Davis caught two passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 48-21 win over Middle Tennessee.
Davis (6'2"/195) isn’t the guy who going to get a lot of catches, but he is the home run hitter because when he does catch them, they’re usually big. He’s just one of the great weapons in this high-octane passing game. In response to an early Blue Raiders touchdown, Bailey Zappe dropped a dime to Davis for 17-yards. It would be Zappe bringing the spark again to Davis as they just timed everything so perfectly from the throw to the stride as they connected deep for 28 yards. This is going to be a hard air attack to stop in the Conference USA, as they’re one of the best in the country thanks to Zappe’s FBS-leading 37 touchdowns. Western Kentucky (5-4, C-USA 4-1) are on the road next Saturday to take on Rice.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Western Kentucky WR Daewood Davis two passes for 64 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 33-31 loss to Indiana.
Davis (6'2"/195) does not have a ton of receptions this year, but he’s certainly made them count. He had a 73-yard touchdown in Week 1 against Tennessee Martin, this week QB Bailey Zappe hit Davis over his shoulder in stride for 25 yards to pull within three of Indiana. Western Kentucky will face another Big-10 team as they go on the road to face Michigan State.

  • FA Wide Receiver
Oregon redshirt junior WR Daewood Davis entered the transfer portal.
In 2019 Davis (6'2/184) moved to the defensive side of the football during spring practice, but that was at a time when Oregon didn’t lack for depth at wide receiver. However with all the injuries at the position, the versatile redshirt junior shuttled between receiver and defensive last year. He caught nine passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, while also posting two tackles and returning four kickoffs for 93 yards. This season he didn’t record a catch, so it was clearly time for Davis to seek out greener pastures.

Oregon redshirt junior WR Daewood Davis (undisclosed) is expected to miss Saturday’s game against UCLA.

Oregon HC Mario Cristobal announced Monday that redshirt sophomore Daewood Davis will be moving back to wide receiver from defensive back.
Davis (6'2/184) moved to the defensive side of the football during spring practice, but that was at a time when Oregon didn’t lack for depth at wide receiver. With all the injuries at that position the redshirt sophomore is back on offense, as the Ducks await the returns of Brenden Schooler, Mycah Pittman, Juwan Johnson and J.R. Waters from their respective injuries. Davis caught one pass for 13 yards last season.

Oregon redshirt sophomore WR Daewood Davis is transitioning to cornerback this spring.
This is expected to be a permanent transition and to that effort, Davis was going through drills with the cornerbacks when spring practice opened up on Saturday. At this early juncture, the 6-foot-1, 183-pound redshirt sophomore is the only player on roster who is working through a position change. During the 2018 campaign -- his lone active season in the program -- Davis caught one pass for 13 yards. His speed should play at corner if nothing else. We’ll keep an eye on his progress at the new position over the coming months.

Oregon redshirt freshman WR Daewood Davis caught three passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s spring game.
Davis (6'1/183) came to Eugene somewhat undersized, but has worked to add bulk over the last year-plus and it’s beginning to show on the field. The former three-star receiver offers a nice size-speed combination. While he’s showing signs of blossoming, it’s probably a bridge too far to expect sizable contributions from Davis during the upcoming season. Oregon’s cupboards in the receivers room are well stocked and it would likely take a few injuries for the Ducks to push him into significant game action.
