Lions hired former Dolphins GM Chris Grier as a personnel executive.
Grier was unceremoniously dumped in the middle of last season by the Dolphins after they started 2-7. Most general managers don’t get a second chance, and Grier had a long run in Miami. If nothing else, this adds a little experience to Detroit’s front office.
  • DET Cornerback #6
Lions CB Terrion Arnold (shoulder) was limited in his return at organized team activities on Thursday.
Arnold had a rough time in 2025. He injured his shoulder in Week 5 and sat out in Weeks 6-8. He returned for Weeks 9-10, but then suffered a concussion. He cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol in Week 13, but managed to aggravate his shoulder injury in-game and was shut down for the rest of the year. He participated in walkthroughs for 30 minutes today, marking his first official practice participation this offseason. His reps are still being managed but this is a good first step.
  • DET Tight End #87
Lions TE Sam LaPorta (back) participated in walkthroughs at organized team activities on Thursday.
This is great news. LaPorta was active for “about 30 minutes of walkthroughs to begin practice.” LaPorta is not yet ready to participate in positional drills and team drills, but this is still an important first step. Earlier today, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that the team is going to ask a lot of LaPorta this season. Hopefully, LaPorta is ready to go by the time training camp rolls around in July.
  • DET Tackle #58
Lions OC Drew Petzing said LT Penei Sewell has had a “seamless” transition, moving from right tackle to left tackle.
Sewell logged more than 500 offensive snaps at left tackle and right tackle in his 2021 rookie season, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team along the way. The Lions then put him at the right tackle spot in 2022 and he has remained there over the past four years, earning four Pro Bowl nods and three first-team All-Pro spots. His quick transition to the left side is not surprising.
  • DET Running Back #0
Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters RB Jahmyr Gibbs is a bell cow now.
No surprise here as Gibbs already took over this role in the second half of last season, which necessitated the offseason trade of David Montgomery to the Texans. The 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs is coming off the board within the first two picks of fantasy drafts this year. He’s set to break the bank this offseason with a massive contract extension from the Lions coming.
  • DET Tight End #87
Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters they’re going to ask a lot of TE Sam LaPorta (back) this season.
Campbell made an off-hand comment during an answer about RB Jahmyr Gibbs, saying the team will be asking a lot of their skill position players and included LaPorta in the list. While the 25-year-old tight end still isn’t practicing after undergoing back surgery in November, Campbell isn’t forgetting about him. His tone was a stark contrast to how he spoke about other injured players and that alone is a good sign for LaPorta’s recovery.
  • DET Safety #31
Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters “I honestly don’t know” what to expect from S Kerby Joseph this season.
Joseph was named a first-team All-Pro in 2024, but played only six games last year with what’s turned into a debilitating knee injury. Campbell noted at Thursday’s press conference that Joseph continues to build strength in his knee and receive treatment, but the team isn’t going to push him until they absolutely have to. Detroit acquired veteran safeties Chuck Clark and Christian Izien this offseason while retaining Avonte Maddox and Thomas Harper to give themselves options with Joseph and Brain Branch (Achilles) on the mend.
  • DET Wide Receiver
Lions WR Kendrick Law tore his ACL and will be out for the season.
Law was a fifth-round pick by the Lions in the 2026 NFL Draft. He spent three years as a backup at Alabama before transferring to Kentucky, where he specialized in the short areas of the field. Law had 505 of his 540 receiving yards with Kentucky come after the catch with most of his targets coming behind the line of scrimmage. The torn ACL he suffered in practice on Tuesday is a devastating injury, particularly for a rookie who’s in need of development.
  • DET Running Back #0
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs could sign an extension averaging $20 million or more per year this summer.
Fowler notes that both Gibbs and Falcons RB Bijan Robinson are eligible for extensions right now. Both players will likely reset the market. Whichever player signs second could end up making more money. Fowler adds that some around the league believe Gibbs “is the very best, No. 1 running back in the entire NFL.” Both players are in contention for the overall RB1 spot in fantasy this year.
  • DET Safety #31
Lions coach Dan Campbell said the team is prioritizing S Kerby Joseph’s (knee) 2026 availability over participation in spring workouts.
Both of the Lions’ starting safeties, Joseph and Brian Branch (Achilles), are rehabbing significant injuries. While it would be great to get one or both of them back on the field this spring, Campbell does not want to hurry his injured stars back and risk re-injury. Late in April, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said both safeties are “trending in the right direction.” However, last we heard, Branch was not expected to be ready to play in Week 1. Joseph will likely sit out spring practices, but seemingly has a chance to participate in training camp. Stay tuned.
