Johnson, who emerged the victor from Philadelphia’s kicking carousel in 2005, is now under contract through 2011.

Johnson has missed the entire preseason after surgery for a sports hernia. If he’s unable to go, David Akers might be asked to be the replacement punter.

He’ll be ready for week one.

“He has tightness in the groin,” coach Andy Reid said, “where he had the surgery. There is some relation there, but he is fine. He has seen the specialist and was OKd to punt. He’s gone out there and was OK.”

Johnson will be replaced by rookie Reggie Hodges.

It looks like he’ll be out a while, if not the season. The Eagles could sign Sean Landeta to replace him.

Mark Mariscal, who has never taken an NFL snap, is currently Johnson’s replacement.

Johnson should be out for six weeks. The Eagles are looking to bring in someone to punt during the preseason and maybe beyond. In house they have Mark Mariscal, but he’s never been in an NFL game before. Sean Landeta rumors are surfacing.

Brad Maynard suffered a groin injury Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 2. Johnson lost his job to Sav Rocca in Eagles training camp.
