Denver LB Donnie Spragan is running with the first-team Denver defense so far in minicamp.
The neck injury to John Mobley opens up a starting job. Spragan and Jashon Sykes are the two candidates for the job.
  • BUF Linebacker
Dolphins signed linebacker Donnie Spragan, formerly of the Broncos, to a two-year, $1.9 million contract.
The deal includes a $500,000 signing bonus. Spragan is serviceable as a starter, and solid as a reserve. He’s not much of an IDP factor.
  • BUF Linebacker
Dolphins signed linebacker Donnie Spragan, formerly of the Broncos, to a two-year contract.
Miami is sure loading up on veteran defenders. Spragan will play the strong side, replacing Morlon Greenwood. It looks like Nick Saban believes Miami can win now. We don’t disagree.
  • FA Linebacker
Joey Porter underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday after meeting with Dr. James Andrews in Alabama on Monday.
Coach Cam Cameron called the surgery “something minor,” but Porter may miss all of the preseason. His status for Week 1 is also in doubt. Miami’s $32 million man will be spelled by veteran Donnie Spragan until he heals up.
  • FA Linebacker
Channing Crowder sprained an ankle on Sunday against Oakland and was seen walking with a significant limp after the game.
Crowder injured himself when his cleat got stuck in the mud that formed when it rained on the infield dirt before the game. Donnie Spragan would replace Crowder if he’s forced to miss Week 5 at Houston.
  • FA Linebacker
Dolphins MLB Channing Crowder (knee/foot) will not play Sunday.
Without Crowder last week, the Fins surrendered 100+ rushing days to two Bills running backs. Donnie Spragan started at middle linebacker and likely will against Baltimore on Sunday. Upgrade Willis McGahee significantly.
  • FA Linebacker
Dolphins LB Channing Crowder will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday and is likely lost for the season.
Crowder, who currently leads the Dolphins in tackles despite not playing the last two weeks, also has dealt with a sprained foot. Donnie Spragan has taken over in the middle and produced only five tackles during that span.
  • MIN Linebacker
Dolphins coach Cam Cameron says the team “is gathering information” on LB Derrick Pope, who was hospitalized for unknown reasons Saturday.
“I’ll find out more, but I don’t want to speculate as to what the situation is,” Cameron said. “We’ll update you once we get more information.” Pope could be replaced by Donnie Spragan on the weak side Sunday.
  • BUF Linebacker
Bills signed veteran free agent LB Donnie Spragan.
With fifth-round pick Alvin Bowen likely lost for the season, the team needed to fill the void.
  • Bills released TE Courtney Anderson, CB Will James and LB Donnie Spragan.
Buffalo tried their luck going for some cheap veterans, but these three were a little too cheap. James’ cut is surprising after he ran as a nickel back during the offseason. Anderson always seems to find a job eventually.
