Preston

Preston became expendable to the Bills when they signed Geoff Hangartner. A fourth-round draft choice in 2005, Preston made 11 starts last season.

Dallas beat the Browns and Raiders to the punch. Preston, 27, started 11 games at center for Buffalo in 2008. He can also help at guard in a pinch.

The decision was confirmed by agent Craig Domann. Preston’s plan is to attend divinity school, where he’ll apparently study to become a priest. The 28-year-old’s career ends after 59 appearances and 20 starts. Preston’s best year was in 2008, when he started 11 games at center for the Bills.

Terms werent’t announced yet, but it’s probably a three-year deal. Duke was a three-year at center for Illinois.

He got the nod over Duke Preston and journeyman Jason Whittle. Butler, a second-year player, has made the transition from college tackle to guard.

Ted Thompson signed a free agent! Preston started 11 games at center for the Bills last season, but he also has plenty of experience at guard. He has a size and athleticism advantage over incumbent center Scott Wells.

Preston, 27, returns to supply depth at guard and center.

Green Bay doesn’t eat any money in the move because Preston wasn’t given a signing bonus. This means incumbent Scott Wells is likely to stay on the roster despite losing his starting job to the more imposing Jason Spitz.

The Cowboys plan to re-sign Preston after the team’s Week 5 matchup in Kansas City, but they hope it works out better than it did with S Marvin White last week.

Preston has taken advantage of former starting C Melvin Fowler’s elbow injury and may have claimed the spot for good. He’ll get a chance to prove his worth this week against Jets NT Kris Jenkins.
