San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell will declare for the NFL draft.
Bell (6'0/200) was the workhorse for an Aztec offense that did not have any consistency at quarterback this year. Although the overall stats looked good, he posted his lowest average yards per carry this season at 4.5, that’s largely part of doubling his carries in his final season. His ability to handle a heavy workload should encourage NFL teams, but will the average yards scare them?

Throughout the first half, Bell was using his vision to gain yards. He capped off a six-play, 52-yard drive to start the second half with a one-yard plunge to put the Aztecs up 24-14. In the second half, he did the same thing, including sealing the game when the Roadrunners had no time-outs left. Bell finished the season with 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell posted 104 rushing yards on 16 attempts in Saturday’s 23-21 win over Nevada.
Bell (6'0/200) was held out of the end zone for the first time in three games, but he was able to hit the century mark in rushing yards for the first time since Oct. 9 against New Mexico. Overall, it was Bell’s fifth 100-yard game of the season, and he is now up to 849 rushing yards with seven touchdowns through 10 games. He’ll look to keep up the good work in a favorable matchup next Friday at UNLV. Bell scorched the Rebels for 111 yards and a touchdown Oct. 24, 2020 in the most recent meeting.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell rushed 24 times for 77 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 17-10 win at Hawaii.
Bell (6'0/200) had his most rushing yardage since Oct. 9 against New Mexico when he racked up 111 yards and a score. He has found the end zone in consecutive games, and his 24 carries were his most since he had 33 totes in a triple-overtime win against Utah back on Sept. 18. The Aztecs need all hands on deck next week in a key Mountain West battle against visiting Nevada next Saturday, and Bell will be a huge part of the offensive plan.

  • Running Back
San Diego State head coach Brady Hoke says “we’ll see” about redshirt senior RB Greg Bell being in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game.
After not receiving his first carry until the third quarter, Hoke was asked if Bell (6'0/200) was being punished for missing a meeting during the week and he responded with an emphatic no, saying “You’ve just got to practice.” Bell was in-and-out of practice all last week for the Aztecs and his playing time reflected that. Bell returning to a starting role would be a big boost for the Aztecs, as he has 603 yards and five touchdowns on the season. After a tough win over Air Force, the schedule doesn’t get any easier as they face Fresno State on Saturday.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell (undisclosed) rushed 10 times for 42 yards and no touchdowns in Saturday’s 20-14 win over Air Force.
Bell (6'0/200) was not on the team’s injury report ahead of this one, but head coach Brady Hoke revealed before game time that Bell practiced on and off throughout the week and that his sitting out to start Saturday’s game was injury related, as Bell has been banged up throughout the season. Bell still saw some work in this one, rushing for 42 yards and averaging 4.2 yards per carry on the day, but the Aztecs largely took a committed approach at running back this week.Three different player on San Diego State rushed eight or more times on the evening. San Diego State (7-0) hosts Fresno State in next Saturday.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell posted 21 rushes for 111 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 31-7 win against New Mexico.
Bell (6'0/200) used the bye last week to recover from a shoulder ailment he sustained against FCS Towson on Sept. 25. The good news is that he made it through the full game without any ill effects of the injury, and he went for his fourth 100-yard game in as many outings against FBS opponents. The bad news is that he coughed the ball up, his third lost fumble in five games. He’ll look to take better care of the ball in next Friday’s visit to San Jose State. Bell had 109 yards and a score against the Spartans last season on Nov. 6, 2020.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell, should be set to return from his shoulder injury in Week 6 against New Mexico.
Bell (6'0/200) suffered his shoulder injury in Week 4 against Towson and did not return to the game. Fortunately, a Week 5 bye appeared to be all he needed, as he now looks set for a return in Week 6. This season, Bell has rushed 73 times for 409 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Aztecs on the ground through their first four games.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell (upper body) has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against Towson.
The fourth-leading rusher in college football, Bell (6'0/200) injured either his left shoulder or collarbone during the first quarter of Saturday’s game. He has since been seen on the sideline with an ice pack on his left shoulder/collarbone, and the severity of the injury remains unknown. With Bell checking out after just two carries, the Aztecs have relied on Kaegun Williams to lead the way at running back. That would likely remain the case if Bell were to be ruled out for an extended period of time.

  • Running Back
San Diego State redshirt senior RB Greg Bell ran 33 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 33-31 win over New Mexico State.
Bell (6'0/205) continues to be the offensive engine that is driving the Aztecs to a 3-0 start. The offense was a little stagnant till midway through the second quarter when Jordan Byrd returned a100 yard kick for a touchdown to tie the game at ten. That must have turned a switch on for Bell who would score two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. Both scores he would use his size and strength to power through up the middle on the Utah defense. Bell has now hit 100 rushing yards seven times at San Diego State in just ten games. The Aztecs will host Towson next Saturday.
