Warren, 31, has been Pittsburgh’s long snapper for the last eight seasons.

Warren just wrapped up his 12th season with the team. He turns 36 this year.

Re-signed in February, Warren had been the Steelers’ snapper of longer than normal snaps for 12 seasons, but he is dealing with what sounds like a serious medical situation. “I had full intentions of playing this upcoming season,” Warren said, “but in light of new information I’ve recently received from my doctors relating to a past injury, it has been determined that trying to compete in the 2017 season may be a risk to my long-term health.” Warren had played all but 11 games for the Steelers since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Pittsburgh drafted LS Colin Holba in the sixth round of this year’s draft.

Warren, 32, has been Pittsburgh’s deep snapper for the past nine seasons.

2016 will mark Warren’s 12th year as the Steelers’ long snapper. The 34-year-old hasn’t missed a game since 2009.

Included is a $395,000 signing bonus. “LS” stands for long snapper. The Steelers are fine with Warren there, but he doesn’t play an actual position.

This is the second straight season that Warren has landed on I.R. with a torn ACL. Last year, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Steelers will be on the lookout for a new long snapper.

Essex, a disappointing former third-round pick out of Northwestern, should draw no interest on the RFA market. Kemoeatu likely got a second-round tag.

LB James Harrison stepped in when Warren went down and promptly blew the game with an errant snap. The Steelers will sign a free agent long snapper this week to handle the duty for the remainder of the season.

Warren injured the knee, then began making his way to the sideline before the knee just buckled on him and he couldn’t get back up. Darnell Stapleton, who’s also been playing offense of late, is the backup long snapper.
