Redskins signed Jonathan Crompton, RB Tristan Davis, OT Nevin McCaskill and CB Travon Bellamy to reserve/future contracts.
A fifth-round pick of the Chargers in 2010, Crompton spent all of 2011 on the Redskins’ practice squad. Depending on which direction Washington goes at quarterback this offseason, Crompton could be in the running for the team’s third-string job in 2012. Amongst the Vikings’ final cuts, Davis worked out for the Panthers in November, but wasn’t signed. A journeyman, McCaskill is unlikely to compete for a roster spot.

Redskins waived QB Jonathan Crompton and OT Willie Smith.
It’s the second time Crompton has been waived this week. He was only re-signed to serve as Kirk Cousins’ backup in the preseason finale. Smith is a practice squad candidate.

    Redskins waived QB Jonathan Crompton.
25-year-old Crompton didn’t even get a preseason snap behind Robert Griffin, Rex Grossman, and Kirk Cousins. Crompton had to know this was coming.

    Redskins re-signed QB Jonathan Crompton.
Crompton was waived on Monday as the ‘Skins got down to 75 players. He’s now back as a practice arm thanks to the release of veteran Chris Cooley. Crompton remains a poor bet to stick on the final roster.

Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton reportedly failed to impress at the Vols’ Wednesday Pro Day.
This hurts because Crompton wasn’t invited to the Combine. According to SI.com’s Tony Pauline, Crompton’s “accuracy was off” during the workout. The one-year wonder appears to be only a seventh-round to free-agent prospect.

Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton recorded forty-yard dash times of 4.87 and 4.89 at the Vols’ Wednesday Pro Day.
Whereas SI’s Tony Pauline reported that Crompton’s “accuracy was off” in QB drills, NFL.com’s Gil Brandt says Crompton “didn’t disappoint” while throwing to RB Montario Hardesty and TE Jeff Cottam. Crompton also had a 31-inch vertical, an 8-foot-10 broad jump, and did the 20-yard shuttle in 4.39 seconds.

Jacksonville State QB Ryan Perrilloux is notably left off the list of invitees for next week’s Scouting Combine.
While Perrilloux may be added later, it appears the NFL is holding his past off-field transgressions against him. He was 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, throwing 23 TDs and just two picks. Other notables left off: Bowling Green WR Freddie Barnes, Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton, Arizona State RB Dimitri Nance, Eastern Washington QB Matt Nichols, Hampton RB LaMarcus Coker, Kansas QB Todd Reesing, and Auburn CB Walter McFadden.

Former NFL scout and current Sporting News draft analyst Russ Lande has Tennessee’s Jonathan Crompton rated as the second-best QB available this year.
It’s safe to say Lande is alone on this one. Crompton had highly impressive games against Georgia and Memphis last year, but he remained very inconsistent in his break-through season. Though Crompton boasts one of the best arms in the draft, scouts question his intangibles. His stock is said to be rising, but he remains a likely mid-to-late round pick.

ESPN’s Ron Jaworski named Jonathan Crompton of Tennessee as his No. 1 sleeper quarterback for the 2010 NFL Draft.
Jaworski was also once high on current Panthers starter Matt Moore as a sleeper. Moore went undrafted. “There are some people who have him not even drafted,” Jaws said of Crompton. “He’s a guy ... who has real upside. He’s very fluid with his movement, can make all the throws ... He throws with great balance. To be a consistently acccurate quarterback, you have to have rock-solid mechanics.” Jaws is also high on Mike Kafka of Northwestern.

Chargers selected Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton with the No. 168 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Though Crompton’s body of work during a five-year stay in Knoxville was unimpressive overall, he took off in Lane Kiffin’s pro-style scheme as a fifth-year senior, posting a 22:6 TD-to-INT ratio in the Vols’ last ten games and taking just 12 sacks all regular season. We were so impressed with Crompton during the stretch run that we rated him the No. 5 overall QB in this draft, while some legit scouting services had him even higher. In San Diego, he’ll vie to be the next Charlie Whitehurst, or perhaps take over Billy Volek’s backup job in 2011.
