Former Cowboys DT Josh Brent was arrested on charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest Sunday in Coppell, Texas.
Police arrived for a welfare check on Brent after he was seen talking to himself in the grass outside a Wendy’s. Brent became uncooperative when police tried to handcuff him and was ultimately tased in the restaurant parking lot. Substance abuse has been a struggle for Brent, who served a 180-day jail sentence after killing his former Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown in a drunk driving accident in 2012. Brent was put on probation for 10 years following that arrest and could be looking at another prison sentence after Sunday’s slip-up.

Cowboys backup NT Josh Brent underwent postseason knee surgery.
He ended up missing four games with a sprained MCL and kneecap injury. There’s no word on the severity of the procedure, though Jay Ratliff’s backup will likely be fine for training camp. Brent finished the 2011 season with six tackles.

Cowboys declared NT J. Brent, OG D. Dockery, WR Andre Holmes, WR Dwayne Harris, DB Mana Silva, OG David Arkin, and OG Daniel Loper inactive for Week 15 against the Buccaneers.
DeMarcus Ware (neck), Laurent Robinson (shoulder) and Michael Jenkins (shoulder) are all active after being listed as questionable. Dockery has quickly fallen out of favor in Dallas since going down with an MCL sprain in week two of the regular season. Holmes plays exclusively on special teams and is said to be dealing with a hamstring injury.

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, the Cowboys still believe that NT Josh Brent will contribute on the field one day.
Brent, accused of driving drunk and testing positive for marijuana during the accident that caused teammate Jerry Brown’s death, is awaiting trial on manslaughter charges. Even if he’s found not guilty, the league will likely suspend him for a year. But the Cowboys apparently think that it’s possible Brent can contribute in 2014 or beyond, so he stays on the roster.

Cowboys NT Josh Brent will attend a Friday morning court hearing to determine if he violated the terms of his release.
Per the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, Brent’s alcohol monitoring device - a SCRAM - detected the presence of alcohol. “He is not meeting the specific conditions that come along with the SCRAM unit,” spokesperson Debbie Denmon said. “He also missed several appointments he should have made, that you have to show up for, so they can monitor the device and check it.” Prosecutors are asking that Brent’s bail be revoked.

Cowboys NT Josh Brent has reportedly tested positive for marijuana as he awaits trial for the deadly car crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown.
Dallas county prosecutors have asked a judge to revoke Brent’s $100,000 bond, after he failed a drug test last month. Brent is on the Cowboys’ roster in name only due to the wishes of Brown’s mother for the team to support him.

Cowboys placed NT Josh Brent on the non-football injury/illness list.
A source tells ESPN Dallas that Brent is “emotionally unable to play after being charged with intoxication manslaughter” for his involvement in teammate Jerry Brown’s death Saturday. The move clears a roster spot but allows Brent to remain at the Cowboys’ facility so he can get support from the organization. Once he pleads guilty or is convicted, the NFL will almost certainly step in with a minimum one-year suspension.

The Dallas Morning News does not expect NT Josh Brent to play for the Cowboys again.
Brent is still technically on the roster, but he’s facing intoxication manslaughter charges and up to 20 years in prison. His status is back in the news after teammate Jay Ratliff was popped for DUI on early Tuesday morning. “My thinking has been dictated by the legal process, so until we know more about timing, status, how that’s resolved there, then I won’t even think about where [Brent] is as far as his career is concerned,” owner/GM Jerry Jones said.

According to multiple reports, Cowboys DL Josh Brent is in Irving (TX) County jail on charges of intoxicated manslaughter.
Per University of Illinois head coach Tim Beckman, Cowboys practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in the accident. Brent obviously did not make the trip to Cincinnati and was booked in jail at 4:14 AM on Saturday morning. Dallas is currently en route to Cincinnati for Sunday’s game, but one would wonder if the team will play after a teammate has been killed. We’ll update this story as more details emerge.

Cowboys DL Josh Brent was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of intoxicated manslaughter.
Teammate and practice squad OLB Jerry Brown was killed in the crash as the passenger in Brent’s car. Brent reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed then hit a curb and flipped his car. Brent was immediately taken to the hospital to have his blood drawn on the suspicion that alcohol was involved. After Brown was pronounced dead, Brent was then booked in Irving (TX) County jail at 4:14 AM on the charges. He did not travel with the team to Cincinnati, and his bond will be set as he appears before a judge at 10 AM local time on Sunday morning.
