  • LAR Linebacker #96
Former South Carolina redshirt senior DL Keir Thomas transferred to Florida State.
Thomas (6'2/275) is taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted due to the COVID-shortened season. A bit of a tweener at 6-foot-2, 275-pounds, Thomas had mostly been a rotational DL for the Gamecocks. In 2020, he notched a career-high three sacks. Thomas had previously missed just about all of the 2019 season due to an ankle injury He will help to rebuild a defensive line that loses DL Marvin Wilson to the NFL Draft.

South Carolina senior DL Kier Thomas (ankle) has been cleared to resume conditioning work.
Thomas (6'2/275) sprained his ankle in preseason camp and subsequently ran into complications relating to that injury. While the senior is making progress in his rehab, it remains unclear if the senior will be able to return to action this season. He could potentially end up taking a redshirt, though that’s not a given at this juncture.

South Carolina senior DL Keir Thomas (ankle) is on the team’s pregame dress list in advance of Saturday’s game against Alabama.
Thomas (6'2/275) is on the mend from a sprained ankle suffered in preseason camp. Gamecocks HC Will Muschamp indicated earlier in the week that the senior would not play on Saturday, so it would be a bit of an about face if he did end up taking the field versus the Crimson Tide.

South Carolina senior DL Keir Thomas (ankle) is expected to miss at least two games.
Thomas (6'2/275) sprained his ankle in camp, an issue which was subsequently compounded by an infection. At the very least, he will be sidelined against UNC (8/31) and Charleston Southern (9/7), after which his status will be reevaluated. This past season, the senior posted 44 tackles (4.5 for loss), plus 1.5 sacks, across 12 starts. Kobe Smith could be tasked with stepping up with Thomas on the mend.

South Carolina signed four-star DE Kier Thomas.
South Carolina wasn’t one of the five (!) SEC schools to earn a spot in Rivals’ Top-10 recruiting classes of the 2016 cycle, but given their coaching chaos during the season, new head honcho Will Muschamp should be pleased to have the 26th overall class. Expectations will likely be higher come 2017, but for now, it’s fine. The 6-foot-1, 255-pound Thomas actually entered the picture after HC Steve Spurrier had already stepped down. He had been committed to Florida State from February to December of last year. Per the ESPN 300 (where he falls into line at No. 192), “You wish Thomas possessed little better size and while he may not wow you physically or in a testing setting, he is a tough and disruptive player that can create problems in the trenches.”
