Free agent FB Kyle Eckel worked out for the Bills on Tuesday.
Eckel played in seven games with the Saints last season as an injury fill-in for lead blocker Heath Evans. He’d be longshot to make the final roster if signed by the Bills.

Patriots signed FB Kyle Eckel from their practice squad and waived LB Corey Mays.
Since Laurence Maroney is out for Monday night, Eckel’s activation could signal that Heath Evans may be in line for a bigger role in the running game. Eckel also plays special teams. Mays was a backup outside ‘backer.

Heath Evans had 56 yards on 10 carries in Week 11.
Evans and Kyle Eckel, who had 10 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, were in much of the second half with Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk sidelined. The Patriots likely kept their top two backs out because the game was a rout, but we will learn more about their injuries on Monday. Evans might be worth picking up as a hedge if you own Maroney or Faulk, but he has minimal value.

Laurence Maroney was sidelined in the second half with a foot injury. He rushed six times for 19 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots said Maroney was probable to return, but with the game well in hand and Kevin Faulk already out with a head injury, the Pats were likely just being cautious. Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel took the carries in the second half. Maroney’s touchdown was his first of the season, but his infrequent touches limits his fantasy value.

The Patriots have downgraded RB Kyle Eckel, TE Kyle Brady, OG Stephen Neal, DB Willie Andrews, and OT Nick Kaczur to “out” for Week 17.
Ben Watson (questionable, ankle) wasn’t downgraded, so the Pats will work him out before Saturday night’s game to determine if he’s well enough to play. Ryan O’Callaghan or Wesley Britt will take Kaczur’s spot at right tackle.

Patriots declared FB Kyle Eckel, S Eugene Wilson, CB Antwain Spann, S Raymond Ventrone, OL Wesley Britt, OL Billy Yates, and DL Rashad Moore inactive for Saturday’s battle with Jacksonville.
TE Kyle Brady, QB Tom Brady, and CB Ellis Hobbs are all active.

RB Kyle Eckel (ribs) will be on the Patriots injury report this week after suffering an injury in Week 16.
Eckel has become a key contributor on special teams and in goal line packages and the Patriots would be down to three running backs if he sits out the regular season finale.
