Safety Marlon McCree was again not starting in the Chargers’ preseason game Friday night.
He did have a nice interception in the second quarter, but the free agent acquisition appears to be behind Bhawoh Jue on the free safety depth chart. He’s not worth drafting in IDP leagues at the moment.

The Panthers are hosting safety Marlon McCree today.
The Panthers only have two safeties on their roster: starters Mike Minter and Colin Branch.

Panthers signed safety Marlon McCree, formerly of the Texans, to a one-year contract.
McCree signed a one-year, $640,000 deal with a $100,000 signing bonus. The seventh-rounder has started 38 games in four seasons.

Chargers FS Marlon McCree has resumed practicing with the team.
McCree was dealing with a knee injury but should be 100 percent by Week 1.
  • LA Defensive Back
The Chargers are expected to start contract discussions with Clinton Hart at the combine this week.
San Diego’s starting strong safety finished last season with 85 tackles, one sack, and five interceptions. Hart is currently signed through 2008.

Beat writer Kevin Acee believes the Chargers will release FS Marlon McCree this offseason.
McCree was possibly San Diego’s best defensive back in 2006, but his play fell off this season and the Bolts have Eric Weddle ready to supplant him. McCree’s base salary is also set to jump from $650,000 to nearly $3 million.

Jaguars agreed to terms with S Marlon McCree, formerly of the Broncos.
McCree was originally a seventh-round pick by the Jags back in 2001. A liability in coverage, McCree was part of Denver’s defensive purge after an injury-plagued 2008 season. He’s expected to be the Jags’ third safety behind Reggie Nelson and Sean Considine.

John Lynch has told Denver television station KCNC that he is in fact leaving the Broncos.
Lynch was unhappy with his planned 2008 role, and says he will consider his options both inside and outside of football. If he doesn’t find an opportunity he likes, Lynch could fulfill his aspirations to do television work. Hamza Abdullah likely takes Lynch’s spot as the run-stuffing safety with Marlon McCree staying deep.
  • JAC Defensive Back
Marlon McCree will be the Broncos’ starting free safety this season.
McCree was cut by San Diego in February because he’s a liability in coverage, not unlike the man he’s replacing: John Lynch. The Broncos may have two big names at corner, but threaten to be a strong fantasy matchup again this year.
  • JAC Defensive Back
Marlon McCree left Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter with an apparent neck injury.
McCree went low to make a helmet-first tackle and stayed down for several minutes, but was able to walk off the field under his own power.
