Former Panthers LB Marquis Haynes announces his retirement from the NFL after seven seasons.
Haynes recently announced the start of his coaching career as a high school defensive coordinator. He last played in the NFL in 2024. Haynes played his entire career with the Panthers after being drafted by the team in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He ended his career with 104 combined tackles and 14 sacks.
  • CAR Linebacker #98
Panthers placed LB Marquis Haynes (back) on injured reserve.
Haynes will miss at least the first four weeks of the season after landing on injured reserve. The veteran linebacker’s absence could be most felt in the passing game, after he totaled a career-high five sacks last season. Haynes will be eligible to return in Week 5 when the Panthers face the Lions.
  • Panthers re-signed OLB Marquis Haynes to a two-year, $5.5 million contract.
A pass-rushing role player since 2018, Haynes has settled into the 300-snap/three-sack range. There are worse things. Heading into his age-29 campaign, Haynes’ role does not figure to grow for 2022.

  • The Panthers traded up to select Ole Miss DE Marquis Haynes with the No. 136 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
The Panthers sent picks No. 147 and 197 to the Rams for this selection. Haynes (6’2/235) broke Greg Hardy’s school record for sacks (32) and Derrick Burgess’ school record in tackles for loss (47.5) for the Rebels, also tallying 12 forced fumbles. Haynes showed passable athleticism at the Combine with 38th-percentile SPARQ results and 4.67 speed. Old for a rookie, Haynes turns 25 later this year and is a one-trick-pony speed rusher. Still, Haynes’ one trick is valuable and gives him a shot at an extended NFL career as a sub-package edge player.
