49ers linebacker Aldon Smith served a nine-game suspension last year after running into legal trouble several times and it appears he may have more problems on that front.
Matt Keller of ABC7 in San Francisco reported that Smith was arrested by Santa Clara police on Thursday night and the Santa Clara County Jail’s website shows Aldon Jacarus Smith, which is Smith’s full name, was booked on Friday. It lists a bail of $26,000 for Smith, but offers no details about what led the police to take him into custody.
Smith was arrested for DUI in 2012, faced weapons charges later that year after an incident at his house that left him with stab wounds and then picked up another DUI after getting into a car accident in September 2013. He entered a rehab facility after that accident and missed five games during the 2013 season.
We’ll wait to see what develops from this arrest, but Smith may be looking at another break from the game and the 49ers may decide to rethink how hard they’ll work to hold onto one of their defensive players that didn’t retire this offseason.
