San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates had his foot examined by a specialist this week, but he says no one should be concerned.
“Just taking precautionary action because of the struggles in the past and all the things I have been through,” Gates said. “It never was a major problem; it was something I wanted to make sure wasn’t any worse.”
Gates says he was diagnosed with a slight case of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He struggled with a foot injury late last season, but that injury was to his left foot.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old Gates has started all 16 games each of the last four seasons, and he’s coming off a 2009 in which he had a career-high 1,157 yards.
