Ben Roethlisberger: Justin Bieber wasn’t a distraction

The appearance of Justin Bieber at the Steelers’ bible study on Saturday night before the team faced the Jets created a buzz on social media and led to some easy jokes when the Steelers lost to the Jets the next day.

Former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw told TMZ that he didn’t think Bieber jinxed the team, but said he wouldn’t have allowed him to be part of the group during his own playing days because it would be a distraction. Current Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who wasn’t at the bible study, said it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary in the current NFL.

“That’s not a big deal at all,” Roethlisberger said on 93.7 The Fan, via ESPN.com. “For instance, Plaxico Burress stopped by. Obviously he’s family, but people stop by all of the time and say, ‘Hi,’ and we’ve had other athletes, actors, celebrities, stuff like that stop by. It’s not a big deal at all.”

If you weren’t already convinced that the life of a professional football player diverges from the norm, the fact that Plaxico Burress and Justin Bieber popping by to discuss the bible on a Saturday night isn’t a big deal should probably convince you.

Should it need to be said, the Steelers didn’t lose because of any Bieber-related reasons. They lost because the Jets won the turnover battle 4-0 and kept the Steelers offense from making big plays against their beleaguered secondary.
