The Bills saw cornerback Stephon Gilmore leave Sunday’s game over the Texans early because of a left shoulder injury, which didn’t keep Buffalo from winning the game but would be a big loss on defense in the coming weeks if Gilmore’s not able to return to the lineup.

Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reported after the game that Gilmore said the shoulder “popped out” and that he’d have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Coach Rex Ryan didn’t delve into specifics about the injury, but gave a bit of an update about how long he expects Gilmore out during his press conference.

“We’ll see how it goes,” Ryan said. “He did leave with a shoulder. We’ll see how he feels. If he can go, we need him out there. ... Don’t believe it’s season-ending, you can rule that out.”

Phrasing the injury as not season-ending suggests that Gilmore will miss some time as a result of the injury, which would push Leodis McKelvin into a more prominent role as the Bills try to keep winning and remain alive in the race for the playoffs.
