Bouchette: Santonio Holmes could be the fall guy in Pittsburgh

We’ve believed that Santonio Holmes’ impersonation of Larry Johnson (both as to throwing drinks and exposing stupidity, Twitter style) would possibly spell doom for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, if/when he is charged with sexual assault in Georgia. Under our theory, Holmes’ conduct pushed the Pittsburgh bad-boy perception to critical mass; if the next shoe to drop were Ben being indicted, the Rooneys would stick a size 17 into Roethlisberger’s rump.

As it turns out, Holmes could be made the example for the recent rash of misconduct.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes that Holmes’ playing days with the team “could be in jeopardy,” if he ultimately is charged with assault in Florida, given the alleged victim’s recent change of heart.

Bouchette likely wouldn’t be predicting that outcome without a leak (or, at a minimum, a nod) from the organization. So the man who won the MVP award in Super Bowl XLIII for dragging a toe inside the white stripe could be paying a stiff price for allegedly crossing the legal line in Orlando, for telling a Twitter user to kill himself, and for openly admitting to waking and baking.
