The Browns waived outside linebacker Corey Lemonier on Wednesday.
Lemonier came to the Browns via a waiver claim in September after he was cut by the 49ers. Lemonier played in eight games and had two sacks for the Browns. He had one sack in three seasons with the 49ers, who drafted him in the third round in 2013.
The Browns waived Lemonier to create a roster spot after being award rookie running back Darius Jackson via waivers from the Cowboys. Lemonier had fallen out of the Browns’ linebacker rotation with the emergence of Emmanuel Ogbah and Cam Johnson and the addition of Jamie Collins via trade.
With the Browns atop of the waiver wire and playing for the future, they could remain busy over the next few weeks if interesting young players become available the way Jackson did. The Browns had also made a roster move Monday, promoting defensive lineman Gabe Wright from the practice squad when the Cardinals signed rookie linebacker Scooby Wright to their active roster from the Browns’ practice squad. A spot on the active roster opened when wide receiver Jordan Payton was placed on the reserve-suspended list.
