Cam Newton must have played some soccer at some point in his career.
But he’s clearly best at football.
The Panthers quarterback got up after a ridiculous attempt to buy a penalty (the Eagles had encroached anyway), and then was able to get across the line for a touchdown to put the Panthers up 14-3 just before halftime.
Newton’s touchdown was his 37th career rushing score, which moved him into third place on his own. He only trails Steve Young (43) and Kordell Stewart (38) on that list of quarterback rushing touchdowns since the 1970 merger.
His running hasn’t been the most impressive of the night for the Panthers, as they got a 43-yard end-around from Ted Ginn to get into position for the score.
