Bruce Arians’ Cardinals coaching staff is full of former NFL players, and he’s found two more who might join the club one day.

Via Darren Urban of the team’s official website, longtime NFL quarterback Byron Leftwich is on hand as a coaching intern for OTAs and training camp.

Leftwich was with Arians in Pittsburgh as part of his nine-year NFL career, and the two continued to talk frequently over the years. The Cardinals have also brought former cornerback Willie Williams in as an intern as well.

I love the game,” Leftwich said. “This is just the next transition from player to coach and [Arians] allowed me to come down and be a part of it. I’ll take advantage of it, and we’ll see.”

“Hopefully I can keep him all year,” Arians said. “I think he’s got a great, bright future in coaching.”

Arians has been willing to offer such internships often, with last year’s for Jen Welter getting the most attention. But with so many former players on his staff, adding a player with Leftwich’s profile seems like a solid fit, as long as they don’t have to carry him back and forth from the huddle.
