The Cleveland Cavaliers have invited former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar to ride in Wednesday’s parade celebrating the Cavs’ NBA championship, Kosar told ESPN Tuesday.
The invitation was extended by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and team CEO Len Komoroski.
Wednesday’s parade has been a long time coming; the Cavs brought home Cleveland’s first major sports title since the Browns won the NFL championship in 1964, and there hasn’t been a parade for a sports team through the city’s streets since the Indians won the American League (but lost the World Series) in 1954.
A supplemental draft pick in 1985, Kosar played nine years for the Browns and led the team to three AFC Championship Games; the Browns fell short each time, losing to the Broncos.
Like NBA Finals MVP and two-time savior of the Cavaliers franchise LeBron James, Kosar is a native Northeast Ohioan and remains one of Cleveland’s favorite sons. Kosar grew up a little more than an hour east of Cleveland, in the Youngstown suburb of Boardman.
Kosar played for the Cowboys and Dolphins after being released by the Browns in 1993.
