The Colts have made several tweaks to their roster since dropping down to 53 players and the fiddling continued on Wednesday with the addition of a cornerback.
The team announced that they have signed Rashaan Melvin. Quarterback Stephen Morris, who was behind Andrew Luck and Scott Tolzien on the depth chart, has been waived.
Melvin is the third cornerback added to the roster since the Colts made their cuts, although waiver claim Neiko Thorpe has already been dispatched in favor of linebacker Akeem Ayers. They also signed Darryl Morris this week and Antonio Cromartie in August as they looked for healthy options with Vontae Davis, Patrick Robinson and Darius Butler all ailing.
Melvin was waived by the Dolphins over the weekend and saw action for both the Ravens and Patriots last season.
Robinson appears to be on track to play against the Lions, but Davis isn’t expected back for a little while and Butler didn’t practice on Monday.
