Former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon is generating a fair amount of interest ahead of Thursday’s Supplemental Draft, including some from the state where he used to play college football.
Matt Mosley of FOXSportsSouthwest.com reports that the Cowboys have “done their homework” on Gordon and that they will be sending a representative to check out Gordon’s Pro Day workout at the Texans facility on Tuesday. If they like what they see and want to get Gordon, the price tag could be fairly high for a player who transferred after a suspension at Baylor and didn’t play at all during the 2011 season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reported Monday that Gordon could go as high as the second round, which would mean a team liked him enough to surrender next year’s second-round pick for the right to add Gordon to their team right now. At 6'4" and 225 pounds with speed that’s expected to land in the sub-4.4 range when he runs on Tuesday, it’s not hard to understand why teams would be interested in Gordon.
The Cowboys have not settled on a receiver depth chart behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, which means Gordon could join the team and immediately challenge the likes of Dwayne Harris and Andre Holmes for snaps as the third receiver. The Dolphins have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot as have several other teams with needs at the position.
