Dolphins not expected to trade up for Tannehill

It’s been pretty well established that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wants his team to draft Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. But the Dolphins aren’t falling over themselves to get him.

In a Wednesday blog post, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald stated confidently that the Dolphins “are not going to trade up” for Tannehill. While Salguero concedes that the Fins think enough of Tannehill to draft him with the eighth pick, they apparently don’t fear another team leapfrogging into the top seven to secure this year’s third-rated signal caller.

Per Salguero, the Dolphins consider Tannehill a “project.” Teams don’t typically view developmental projects as worthy of top-ten picks, but Miami has a built-in advantage because it’s running virtually the same offense in which Tannehill played at the college level.

Therefore, Tannehill may have a better chance to thrive with the Dolphins, and pay off as a top-eight pick down the line.
