The Patriots have added another wide receiver.
A league source told PFT that Donte’ Stallworth, who played for New England in 2007, has agreed to a one-year deal with the team. He’s the third free agent wide receiver to sign with the Patriots in the last few days, joining Brandon Lloyd and Anthony Gonzalez.
Stallworth caught 22 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown with the Redskins in 2011. He was cut by the team in November, but quickly re-signed after Washington lost Leonard Hankerson to an injury. Stallworth had 46 catches for 697 yards and three touchdowns in his first stint with the Patriots, which ended when the team didn’t pick up an option after the first year of a five-year deal he signed with them as a free agent.
Stallworth tweeted that “This time around, things will be different” on Monday.
The signing is likely an attempt to add a deep threat to the Patriots’ corps of wide receivers. They are a bit short in that area. His arrival could also push Chad Ochocinco even further down a depth chart that he might not be on when the 2012 season gets underway.
