After 11 seasons with the Colts, Dwight Freeney may be joining one of their biggest rivals.
Freeney is visiting the Patriots today, Tom Curran of CSNNE.com reports.
The Patriots have been seeking a veteran pass rusher and also have a visit scheduled with John Abraham. The glut of defensive ends on the market has led to several pass rushers signing lower-than-expected deals, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the Patriots pick up a veteran defensive end at a reasonable price.
The 33-year-old Freeney may be slowing down, as his sack totals have declined from 13.5 to 10.0 to 8.5 to 5.0 over the last four seasons. And he wasn’t a particularly good fit in the defense that new coach Chuck Pagano installed last season in Indianapolis.
But for some team he could still be a valuable part of the defense, at least as a situational pass rusher. That team may be the Patriots.
