No one really seems sure about when Eagles Pro Bowl offensive lineman Shawn Andrews will return to the field.
According to Andrews, who recently found out there was no structural damage in his back, he will be ready for a Week One start against the Panthers.
“I think I will,” Andrews said. “I know I will. I think there’s a great chance of that.”
Andrews hasn’t practiced since re-injuring his back as training camp was opening. Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked when he expected Andrews to return to the field.
“I have no idea when or where,” Reid said. “Right now Winston Justice is the guy. That’s how I have to look at it.”
That can’t be comforting news to Donovan McNabb or anyone that remembers the six sacks Justice gave up to Osi Umenyiora in 2007.
Perhaps the Eagles can protect Justice more with him at right tackle, but upgrading McNabb’s pass protection was supposed to be the focus of Philadelphia’s offseason.
Andrews isn’t worried about the time he’s missed, even considering he’s making a position change to right tackle.
“I don’t think the move will be a problem,” he said. “It felt great being out there for the minicamps and the OTAs. I mean, there’s the continuity thing and all that, but football is football.”
