The Chiefs got good news and bad news on the two safeties that were injured during practice this week.

Coach Andy Reid said that Eric Berry injured his right ankle on Thursday, but the team updated that on Friday. Herbie Teope of the Associated Press reports that the team is now calling it a right heel injury and said that Berry will miss a couple of days of practice while healing up.

The news is much less encouraging for Sanders Commings, who crumpled to the ground when running back Jamaal Charles threw a fake while carrying the ball during a play. Teope reports that trainer Rick Burkholder said that Commings fractured his fibula in addition to suffering the ankle injury that required him to go for surgery on Thursday.

“He’s got some rehab ahead of him,” Burkholder said.

The Chiefs signed Steve Gregory on Thursday to add some depth at safety as it looks like Commings, who played only three plays as a rookie because of a broken collarbone, is going to be out of the picture for a long while.
